What is provided on the tour?
IF NEEDED, BACKPACKS AND TREKKING POLES ARE AVAILABLE TO USE, PONCHOS FOR THOSE WITHOUT RAIN GEAR, BOTTLED WATER, TRAIL MIX, SOMETIMES TEA (ON COLDER, WETTER DAYS), AND ONE PAIR OF BINOCULARS TO SHARE. FOR THOSE INTERESTED AND TIME ALLOWING, A GUIDED TAI-CHI SESSION ON THE BEACH IS ALSO AVAILABLE.
Can we book a tour with MRT on one of the many other trails in the Ketchikan area, such as Deer or Dude Mountain?
UNFORTUNATELY NO. THERE ARE A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TRAILS THAT GUIDES ARE ALLOWED TO COMMERCIALLY GUIDE ON IN THE KETCHIKAN AREA. Deer Mountain and dude mountain are regulated by the tongass national forest and commercially guided hikes on these trails are not allowed. MRT only has one commercial permit in order to guide people on the coast-guard beach trail.
Where do we meet the guide for our tour?
if arriving on a cruise ship, you will meet teague in front of the ketchikan city map inside and at the far end of the berth 3 shelter. For those of you arriving by state ferry or plane, please make arrangements for pick-up with teague. there is a 15-minute buffer zone for meeting your tour guide, i.e. if the tour is scheduled for 8:15 am, the tour will leave no later than 8:30 am.
this tour is a 2.5—3 hour hiking tour, which includes a 15-minute buffer zone for meeting and picking up customers. A 30-minute drive north out of town to the trail head. an approximate 30-minute hike down to Coast-guard beach. approximately 30-minutes to sight-see and beach-comb. 30-minute hike back to the parking lot. 30-minute drive back to the cruise ship docks, with a 15-minute buffer zone for traffic or bathroom stops. this beach is only accessible by foot or boat!
How long is this tour and where do we go?
unfortunately, no. Due to the nature of the steep terrain, wheelchairs, walkers, or motorized scooters can not be accommodated.
Is this tour ADA accessible?
Most likely, yes. the best place to see wildlife on this tour would be at the beach, where you may have a chance to see bald eagles, marten, seals, sea lions, deer, and/or whales.
